Des Moines University's AHEC Program opened a new area health education center at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. West Central Iowa Area Health Education Center is the third of a planned four AHECs launched by Des Moines University to recruit, train and retain healthcare professionals in Iowa.
Sharon Meyers was hired as the executive director of West Central Iowa AHEC and began her duties on July 20th. An experienced educator, Sharon has been in education for over 20 years, working as a high school counselor, registrar and teacher. "I am thrilled to be a part of the new AHEC program in the Carroll area. By working with AHEC, I look forward to assisting local and area individuals to explore, experience and study health-related careers as I help youth and adults secure awareness and services concerning health-related occupations," she said.
West Central Iowa AHEC will serve 14 counties in the western portion of the state by developing programs to teach children about healthcare careers, providing clinical training experiences to health profession students and supporting healthcare practitioners with continuing education offerings.
