October is Health Literacy Month and Central Iowa Area Health Education Center is doing its part to bring awareness to this issue. Over 90 million adults in America have low health literacy, meaning they cannot understand the health information and doctor's orders provided them. Central Iowa AHEC is offering "Health Literacy," a continuing education course open to all healthcare workers. This class will define the scope of health literacy and provide more effective patient communication strategies. Dr. Michele Devlin, director of the Iowa Center on Health Disparities, and Dr. Mark Grey, director of the Iowa Center on Immigrant Leadership and Integration, will present.
