First Look at Science and Medicine

Des Moines University

The First Look at Science and Medicine program aims to cultivate an interest in science and medicine in elementary students. This after-school program is located on the campus of Des Moines University and is targeted to students in third through sixth grade. For one hour each month during the school year, First Look provides hands-on experiences in the areas of anatomy, medicine, microbiology, physics and physiology.

Genesis Adventures in Nursing

Genesis Health System, Davenport

Genesis Adventures in Nursing (GAIN) is a week-long summer day camp for students aged 12-18 who are interested in a nursing career. Campers are introduced to different specialties in healthcare through a tour of the hospital, a mock trauma in the emergency department and visits to the operating room and simulation lab. Campers will also learn first aid, CPR, and health assessment, as well as basic anatomy and physiology of the heart and brain.

SCI Summer Camps

Science Center of Iowa, Des Moines

The Science Center of Iowa offers summer camps for kids in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. These week-long camps provide children with a fun and unique learning opportunity. Camps run all summer long, with a new theme each week exploring topics such as space, the human body and the oceans.

Science Station Summer Camps

Science Station, Cedar Rapids

The Science Station offers summer camps that teach kids in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade the fundamentals of science and technology. The week-long camps each focus on a different topic in science and include themes such as "Mini Medical School" and "Extreme Science." Eight weeks of camps are scheduled this summer at both the Science Station in Cedar Rapids and The University of Iowa in Iowa City.
