Our Mission

The mission of AHEC is to enhance access to quality healthcare, particularly primary and preventative care, by improving the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals through community and academic educational partnerships.

Who We Serve

The state of Iowa is served by the Iowa AHEC program, coordinated through The University of Iowa. The Iowa AHEC Program serves counties thourghout Iowa:

  • Central Iowa AHEC – In partnership with Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Central Iowa AHEC began operations in November 2008 and serves eight counties in the region.
  • Northeast Iowa AHEC – Based out of Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Northeast Iowa AHEC was the program's first center, opening its doors in June 2008 and covering a 21 county service area.
  • Northwest Iowa AHEC – Opened in July 2010, West Central Iowa AHEC is housed at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll and covers 14 counties in the area.
  • Southwest Iowa AHEC - Based out of Decatur County.
  • Southeast Iowa AHEC - Based out of Scott County.
